Medway Local Plan

Published by admin on

The local council is putting together the Local Plan for the coming years for Medway Council. The plan sets out policies and proposals for new development, including housing, employment and infrastructure.

This could mean that Rede Common could be affected. The plan includes significant housing developments to meet local demand. This can lead to the destruction of natural habitats and greenspaces, affecting wildlife and plant species. Construction activities may also disrupt ecosystems and reduce the size of protected areas. To support new housing and commercial areas, the plan proposes expanding infrastructure such as roads, utilities and public services. These developments can fragment habitats, making it difficult for wildlife to thrive and migrate. While the plan may include measures to mitigate environmental impacts, there are concerns about their adequacy and effectiveness.

The Friends of Rede Common invites you to take part. Contributing the the Medway Local Plan allows us to influence decision-making and ensure that the plan reflects community needs and desires. Public input helps protect natural areas and historical sites and address specific local concerns. Active participation ensures that development is balanced and considerate of both current and future needs.

After the consultation period is completed, the feedback will be taken into consideration. The plan will be completed and submitted in the coming months and we will keep a close eye on the situation as things progress to help ensure the long term future of the common.
